Our Impact

Shifting the way Pakistan thinks about reading and its
importance for our children…

GoRead.pk aims to bring about social change through reading stories focusing on the development of positive personality traits with an emphasis on Tarbia (character development), Ehsaas (compassion) and Adab (literature). The characters, their situations, actions and consequences in our stories act as springboards to engage children in meaningful discussions creating a generation of youth that loves to read while nurturing positive personal development for their well-being and success. Stories read by GoRead.pk will focus on character traits in a developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant way.

Our model is evidence based and human centred developed locally in a cost effective and sustainable way.

Who are we impacting?

GoRead.pk aims to develop a library of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate stories to be read aloud to children within our communities. Stories can play an important role in developing responsibility, citizenship and other positive character qualities that are of value to the growth and success of a nation.
Our first phase of stories are developmentally appropriate for children between the ages of 5 years to 9 years old. Early childhood is the most important phase in a child’s development and reading to children at a young age is essential for a strong, healthy mind. Research also informs that reading helps develop non-cognitive skills as well, resulting in positive social skills and a balanced personality.
We intend to expand our library of stories for children between the ages of 10 years to 16 years old and help address some of the problems faced by our youth through our program.
GoRead.pk aims to create a partner network of children, parents and community members in areas in which we will implement our programmatic activities. Our program model inspires ownership within communities. By encouraging caring adults and leaders within the community to step up and become a part of GoRead.pk for sustainability and dissemination of the programme’s philosophy, the impact is not limited to children, but extends to women and other adults as well. We believe that true sustained and growing impact is achieved via community-based grassroots efforts and our model is built for allowing local community ownership and empowerment. Our ‘mobile’ library of stories would help foster a love for reading within communities as a whole resulting in longer term positive impact.
Our volunteers will be a nationwide movement of caring adults from all walks of life who are a part of the GoRead.pk program and have access to our communities. When caring adults huddle with children around a story, the nurturing environment they create does wonders for children’s self-esteem and arouses their curiosity. We believe that by contributing an hour a week of their time each volunteer can make a difference. Our model results in a ‘ripple’ effect in reducing the social divide and encourages increased feelings of citizenship, ownership and shared humanity.

Measuring the impact

Each of our stories is unique in its lessons disseminated and positive impact created for our beneficiaries.

Our programme will ensure rigorous monitoring and evaluation tools are available and utilised by GoReaders (volunteers) and administrative staff to measure our impact and provide valuable insights:

    • Pre and post tests will be created and used to gather data for evaluation and analysis to measure impact
    • GoReaders will have access to simple yet effective tools for monitoring sessions conducted and gather both quantitative and qualitative data
    • Maintaining regular monitoring and communication within our communities through our ‘mobile’ library program which ensures sustained impact as selected community leaders further the GoRead.pk philosophy within their neighbourhoods
    • Programme structure will be revisited each year and information from data will be used to make any constructive changes needed as future planning is implemented

UN Sustainable Development Goals

GoRead.pk mission is supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals specifically Goal 4: Quality Education:
Goal 4 Target 4.7
“By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”
Goal 4 Target 4.A
“Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, nonviolent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all”

Additionally, we also are working on advancing the following UN SDGs through our stories developed for youth in Pakistan:

Goal 5: Gender Equality
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities
Goal 13: Climate Action
Goal 14: Life Below Water
Goal 15: Life on Land
Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Technology and Communication

GoRead.pk intends to create a simple and engaging network for communication among all GoReaders for tracking performance, learning and improvements as well as access to simple and standardized tools for monitoring and evaluation.
A mobile app would provide targeted information to our GoReaders using technology to ensure a well-established and active virtual community. The virtual community will allow for capacity building, data collection and documentation in addition to sharing and exchange of best practices of read aloud sessions. Our program intends to digitize processes and use technology for sustainability and scalability helping to smoothen data flow, minimize errors and to gather high-quality impact data efficiently.
